Iowa is home to more than 35,000 soccer players — 50% of them within 60 miles of Des Moines — with legions of eager, passionate fans. If our community builds a new multi-use stadium, a local USL Championship club will bring significant national exposure and cultural and economic benefits to Greater Des Moines.
Des Moines can become home to a USL Championship soccer franchise. Popular across cultures, age groups and diverse groups of sports fans, soccer is on the rise in the United States. This is our chance to bring a professional soccer club from the USL’s top tier to our community and participate in the largest professional soccer league in North America.
As a highly visible community connector and an iconic anchor for future development, a USL Championship franchise and multi-use stadium will showcase Central Iowa and grow our community by attracting new people and new investments via local, regional and national sporting events, community events and festivals.
The United Soccer League is the largest pro sports organization in North America, comprising three tiers and more than 100 member clubs. The USL Championship, the USL’s top tier, is a dynamic league with more than 36 member clubs across the U.S. and Canada. It reaches more than 84 million people. By building a new stadium for a USL Championship club, Central Iowa will join a national pro sports scene with the largest cities in the country and nationally broadcast matches on ESPN platforms.
